Caribbean Muzik Festival and Junkanoo

The Bahamas, which is comprised of 700 islands, is a vibrant place with people full of life. In addition to the water sports such as swimming, boating, scuba diving, and snorkeling, as well as sightseeing, dining, moonlight cruises, and more, the Bahamas also features a number of festivals, one of the most popular being the Caribbean Muzik Festival.

This particular event is held in the month of June and is an exciting time as local artists and music lovers come together to enjoy the sounds. This festival also features some of the most wonderful local cuisine, many parties, and tons of entertainment. Typically, the Caribbean Muzik Festival starts with a massive street party where literally thousands of people come to dance and have fun.

From there, the festival moves to an open area that sits adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Sports Center where you will enjoy a wide array of performances. The entire experience is colorful and exciting. For an entire week, you can sit back and enjoy the island-wide jam session that includes favorites such s Soca and Reggae. This festival is a wonderful opportunity to experience the locals at their best.

Then, there is the Junkanoo, which is another fantastic festival that celebrates the Bahamian culture. Generally, this festival is hosted around the Christmas and New Year holidays at which time you hear a resounding of whistles, goatskin drums, also known as Goombay, and cowbells, calling to the people to come join in the celebration.

Although you typically see locals participating in the Junkanoo Festival, everyone is welcome. The main event begins just before sunrise, as 20,000 people come to party through the night. The Bahamas is a vibrant place, which is why so many people choose it as a getaway destination. In addition to the beauty of the islands, the locals are warm-hearted.
