Romantic Argentina

In the past few years, Argentina has been a country faced with some economic challenges but even so, it is a magnificent place with incredible natural wonders. Located in South America, this country is known for its European flavor of elegance and sophistication. The people in Argentina are passionate and for individuals who love to travel, a perfect destination. Currently, approximately 38 million people call Argentina home where the majority are of European descent.

During pre-Columbian days, Argentina was actually an area farmed and hunted by Indians. The capital city, Buenos Aires was not established until 1580, remaining a backwater for two centuries. As the Indian population declined, the people desperately needed a way to make a living, which is when large cattle ranches were formed, known as haciendas.

Then in 1776, Buenos Aires also became the capital of the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata but due to problems associated with the interference of the Spanish, the revolution began in 1810, although Buenos Aires eventually achieved independence in 1816. Throughout the years, Argentina went through several battles, was faced with unrest and turmoil, and low unemployment rates but today, the economy is vastly improving, poverty levels have improved, and for tourists, this is a beautiful and affordable place to visit.

All throughout Argentina, you will see influences of Europe to include the architecture, literature, art, and even lifestyle. Buenos Aires is particularly permeated with cultural trends where you will discover wonderful art galleries, museums, cinemas, and more. Because of the sophisticated diversity, Argentina is fascinating and entertaining for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Pamillada
Dining out in Argentina is always an enjoyable experience where meat dominates the menu. For instance, one of the best things you can order is called pamillada, which is actually a cut of meat that includes just about every part of the animal. While it might sound disgusting, you will be surprised at the wonderful flavor, although not the dish for vegetarians. Another popular menu item is called hoquis or Gnocchi. Of course, you cannot pass the opportunity to try helado, which is an amazing Argentine ice cream.

If you love the nightlife and enjoy dancing, this is the place to learn the Tango. In fact, this and many other Latin dances will keep you up into the wee hours having a great time. Without doubt, Argentina is a place of excitement and culture, all perfectly blended, which is why it is so many people love going there.

Argentina is actually quite large, ranking eighth largest in the entire world. To the west is Chile and to the north and east, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Interestingly, the ownership of the Islas Malyinas, also called the Falklands to the British, is something still being disputed. The country is also divided into four provinces, each very unique and distinct.

First, you have the Andes to the west with beautiful foothills growing plump, juicy grapes, glacial mountains, and the Lake District. Then, there is central Pampas, which is actually very flat, dry, and humid, followed by Patagonia, a nice blend of glacial regions and pastoral steppes, and finally, the lowland to the north, which is fertile and rich with subtropical rainforests.

This type of diversity is just one of the many things responsible for drawing people into Argentina. Along with the four provinces are more than 20 national parks where abundant wildlife is protected, animals such as the puma, ostrich, condor, flamingo, llama, marine life, penguins, and more. Again, nature is very dramatic and popular in Argentina, which is easy to understand why.

If you are considering a trip to Argentina, you can fly in on your choice of five airlines. Then travel within the country consists of long-distance buses, local buses, cabs, and railways. The standard summer months run from December to February, which is the best time to go, although visiting any time of the year is spectacular. During the summer, the temperatures are comfortable, allowing you time outdoors.

For attractions, there are many things to do, which will be covered in additional articles. However, just to provide you with a few options, there is the Moreno Glacier located in Santa Cruz, the Iguazu Falls, the capital city of Buenos Aires, Cordoba, which is Argentina’s second city and a wonderful place of colonial buildings from the 17th century, Mar del Plata, where you will find a pristine beach that stretches out over five miles, Pampas, the agricultural heartland and romantic center, and many off the beaten path destinations.

While you can enjoy some festivals, keep in mind that Argentina actually is not a festival rich country. Instead, people enjoy nature in the tropical rainforest or beach, dance at excellent nightclubs, and just enjoy life. Because Argentina is so affordable, you can find quality hotel accommodations anywhere from $10 to $150 a night with meals between $2 and $40. Treat yourself to a bit of culture and beauty, which is exactly what you will get in Argentina.
