Wadden Islands

Located just to the north of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, you will find five islands where tourists come from around the world to enjoy. These islands include Ameland, Schiermonnikoog, Terschelling, Texel, and Vlieland, all known as the Wadden Islands.

Regardless of the island you choose, there are many things to do and see. If you enjoy being around or on the water, then perhaps taking a stroll on the beautiful beach would be to your liking or you might enjoy sailing, swimming, or snorkeling. However, if you simply want some quiet time, you can take in some bird watching or just sit back, relax, and do nothing.

Tourists Netherlands Each of the Wadden Islands is absolutely beautiful but yet very distinct. For instance, the island of Schiermonnikoog and Vlieland do not permit any automobiles. Amazingly, when the islands are at low tide, you can walk between some of the islands, as seen in the photograph. Keep in mind that the ground is commonly wet and muddy, which is why the locals call this Wadlopen, or mud walking. If you plan to visit any of the islands, we highly recommend you enjoy the services of a skilled guide.

It is actually easy to become disoriented while on the muddy, flat plains and you certainly do not want to find yourself out in the middle of the land when the tide comes in. Even though there are vast plains of mud, you cannot help but be mesmerized by the beauty. The Wadden Islands are unspoiled nature reserves that boasts pristine beaches, quaint little villages, a variety of wildlife, and whether visiting in the spring, summer, or fall, simply a delightful place to take a restful break.

When you look at the Wadden Sea, there is no place on earth like it. In fact, this particular sea is like a world of its own. The Wadden Sea is governed by ebb and flood along with sand and water. Protecting this sea are approximately 50 islands and islets that begin with the five Wadden Islands. The sea is also bursting with life and as the flood tides bring the water in twice each day, you will discover rich sediment and plankton.

Then in the summer months, the waters of the Wadden Sea around the Wadden Islands are warm and inviting. Because of this, both seaweed and algae grows rapidly, drawing in life such as fish, seals, and birds, which form an abundance of rich food for the inhabitants on the Wadden Islands. Again, all the islands are beautiful, featuring peaceful and open space.

The beaches and dunes are stunning, the flora and fauna diverse and abundant, and the views as you look out over the Wadden Sea and North Sea are magnificent. Because each island offers something unique, we recommend you try to spend a little time on each. You can simply take a boat ride or again on low tide, walk the muddy plains.
