Santo Domingo and Cabarete

One of the great aspects of visiting the Dominican Republic is all the great cities. With such diversity between beaches, mountains, swampland, and rainforests, you will be amazed at what all you will see and learn. One city called Cabarete is a magnificent destination for people looking for the perfect vacation spot. In fact, this very city is considered the best place in the world for windsurfing.

The beaches in Cabarete are pristine and white, something you only imagine or see in travel brochures. When visiting this city, you will find a number of five-star accommodations that boast hot tubs, fresh lobster dinners, cold champagne, live entertainment, and more. The town is alive with dancing where nightly, the local bars and discos are open to hundreds of partygoers.

Keep in mind that while visiting Cabarete, nude sunbathing is commonplace but with so much beach area to enjoy, you will have many places not as obvious. If you want to try your hand at windsurfing, you can rent equipment right there on the beach or even take a private lesson. However, if this is not your sport, you will have the option to swim, scuba dive, snorkel, or try a number of other water sports. The water is stunning as the waves break over coral reefs that are just as beautiful.

Santo Domingo
Just as Cabarete is a quiet retreat, you can visit the capital city of Santo Domingo that is more vibrant and exciting. This city features some amazing colonial sites and Zona Colonial, the place where the Spanish took control over the Americas is worth visiting. Other great places to visit include the oldest extant cathedral in the Americas called Catedral Primada de America. In addition, you can spend time at any number of museums that provide you with invaluable information about the history of the land and the native people.

Then, you have the city of Santiago, somewhat in between Cabarete and Santo Domingo. This provincial city is a commercial hub where factories work to process raw sugar into excellent rum and locally grown tobacco into cigars. The tempo of this city is somewhat relaxed although there are some great museums and restaurants to enjoy. When in Santiago, take time to visit Calle del Sol, which is the main street through the city and the place where you will find excellent shopping.
