La Romana Mississippi

While there are many cultural tours in the Dominican Republic, one that everyone should experience runs along the La Romana Mississippi. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to visit a number of historical sites, starting with la Otra Banda where several music genres can be enjoyed. This village is quite small and was one founded by the Spaniards coming from the Canary Islands during the 18th century. From there, you follow the La Romana Mississippi to the San Dionisio Church, which is a beautiful structure.

Next on the stop is the Basilica of Higuey, one of the most amazing architectural icons of the Dominican. In fact, Basilica of Higuey is the most visited building in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean nation. This place represents the holy place of the spiritual mother of the Dominicans, known as Our Lady of Altagracia. In celebration, thousands of people come to participate in the festivals held at this site each year in January.


Another stop along the La Romana Mississippi is a cigar factory in La Romana. Typically, the guide will take visitors to lunch where they can enjoy some of the local flavor, after which you would head to Los Altos de Chavon. This 16th century Italian village is well known for its local artistry. You will also find this stop boasting some amazing shops or you could spend some time at the Taino Indian Museum. However, some people simply prefer to wander among the charming streets of the village.

Most tourists that visit the Dominican Republic and take the guided tour along the La Romana Mississippi are pleasantly surprised by the wonderful accommodations.
