Geneva Switzerland

When traveling to Switzerland in Europe, you will be greeted by a number of beautiful cities such as Geneva. Today, this magnificent city hosts some 190 organizations to include the UN European headquarters, International Labour Organization, High Commission for Refuges, and others. For centuries, Geneva has provided shelter for refugees, bringing with them special trades and technologies such as textiles, watch making, printing, and so on. Because of this, you see this city being a top conference center with the ability to make everyone feel right at home.

Geneva is a piece of enclosed land encircled by France. Switzerland’s border is comprised of small areas of land that connect Geneva to the Canton of Vaud on the right bank of Lake Geneva, which itself is located between the Alps and the Jura mountains. Then, crossing through Geneva are two main rivers of Arve and Rhone. Something many people are not aware of is that Geneva is situated just an hour from Milan or Paris by plane and less than two hours from Madrid, London, or Rome, also by plane, making it the ideal location.

Geneva While many of the cities in Switzerland are not rich in arts, Geneva is the exception, being a town of excellent art and culture. In fact, you will find a number of wonderful libraries and museums, along with the orchestra, opera, and a number of cultural centers. Geneva also offers many outside park areas that are truly breathtaking. The parks of this city account for 310 hectares. The two most popular parks are the Les Eaux-Vives and La Grange, both with spectacular views.

The one thing people notice immediately is the cleanliness of this city with some people going as far as saying Geneva is “sterile”. Regardless, it is a real joy to enter a city to find things neat and organized, and the people warm and friendly. During the day, you might enjoy a boat excursion or stroll along the shores of the lake. For some sightseeing, you can take a cable car ride up Mont Saleve where you will be treated to a remarkable view. Other points of interest include the Cathedral St. Pierre, a Gothic church were John Calvin actually preached during the 16th century, the Place du Bourg-de-Four, Geneva’s oldest square, or the Museum of Art and History, a wonderful place where you can see a large collection of sculptures, paintings, archaeology, and weapons.
