Algarve Live Science Center

In Faro, Portugal, children and adults alike can spend time visiting the Algarve Live Science Centre. Open every day excluding Monday, the cost to enter is inexpensive while inside, there is an entire world of discovery. This science centre is a great opportunity to enjoy interactive exhibits, pushing visitors to stretch their creativity and knowledge boundaries. Divided into various sections, there, people can spend a day earning about light, the sun, chemicals, stars, the green world, and blue world, and more. In addition to the many permanent exhibits on display, there are also a number of traveling or temporary displays.

The Algarve region of Portugal is in the south and the Algarve Live Science Centre developed to provide up and coming astronomers an opportunity to learn all they can about the universe. One of the tools provided is a large telescope to explore new worlds. In fact, these telescopes are so incredible, they include a 0.5m f4.5 Newtonian that is on equatorial-driven fork mounts. Then, there are three additionally telescopes, each of 0.3m f5 Newtonian, also on equatorial-driven mount, also housed in a rotating dome while the other two are on Dobsonian mounts.

Portugal Cliff This particular science centre is always doing amazing things. For example, in the summer of 2004, they were able to present a live webcast as the planet Venus crossed over the disk of the sun. Keep in mind that while the Algarve Live Science Centre is an exceptional place to visit for the entire family, while in this region of Portugal, you can also enjoy a great family holiday.

Faro is an attractive town that offers a number of interesting places to visit. For instance, you can walk among Roman and Moorish ruins that date back to the 13th century. However, the majority of buildings are from the latter part of the 18th century after the town was devastated by a 1755 earthquake. You will also discover some incredible cafes and restaurants, along with pristine beaches and an amazing theater that provides several dramas, dance performances, and musicals.

If you enjoy golf, Faro, Portugal also has 19 courses, all on the stretch of coast that runs between Faro and Albufeira. Faro boasts a 13th century cathedral and a wide array of architectural styles from Gothic to Renaissance to Baroque. Of course, you will commonly see beautiful Azulejos tile and gilded woodwork. Other points of interest include the city’s archaeological museum, the Nossa Senhor do Carmo church that is beautifully designed with gold leaf woodwork and the home to the bones of more than 1,200 monks.
