Dublin International Film Festival

When traveling to Dublin, Ireland, you will discover a unique land that is peaceful with a touch of excitement. Although many of the cities are laidback, Dublin also celebrates life, which is seen in the many festivals held each year. For example, no one kicks up the hills on St. Patrick’s Day like the Irish. After all, this holiday is theirs!

However, other festivals to enjoy include Bloomsday in June, where you can watch reenactments and readings. Then, there is the Jazz & Blues Festival in Belfast in the month of June where locals come to create magnificent music. However, one of the favorite festivals is held each February, the Dublin International Film Festival.

Held annually, the Dublin International Film Festival is still young, just celebrating its fourth year, although many more will come. Dublin, Ireland Officially known as the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, you will enjoy a wide range of special events that includes retrospective programs, seasons, and discussion-driven events. Although there are a number of accommodations for people coming into Dublin for this event, the luxurious Westin is a sponsor. Therefore, they offer special rates and best of all; they are within walking distance to the festival’s venues.

You can also join the Festival Club, which will entitle you to food and drinks at The Mint Bar. Open each night while the festival is occurring, this particular bar is located within the Westin and one of the city’s favorite watering holes. The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival lasts a full 10 days whereby close to 100 films from more than 30 countries are featured. The feature film will commonly draw between 800 and 1,000 people, making this a huge celebration.

Prior to the start of the festival, people are greeted and famous stars graciously provide time for autographs and photographs. Typically, the festival will open with a few speeches, thanking everyone involved for their hard working in organizing this great event. From there, you can enjoy all types of films, followed by time in any number of nightclubs and pubs where conversation is all about the best and the worst of film.

The thing to remember is that with so many films and from so many different countries, there is surely something for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, the film festival features a “surprise film”, whereby no one knows what to expect. Crowds are thrilled with incredible performances by people such as Keira Knightley and Adrien Brody. Then on the final night, you will watch a film closing out the perfect occasion. When planning a trip to Dublin, if you are a film buff, then this is most definitely the opportunity of a lifetime.
