Kecskemet

In the central region of Hungary you will find a town called Kecskemet, which is located in Bacs-Kiskun County not far from the capital city of Budapest. This particular Hungarian city is a very important hub for grain, livestock, and fruit, serving as a major rail junction. While many different foods and products pass through Kecskemet, you typically see apricots and other fruits, textiles, leather goods, liqueurs, and various types of farm equipment.

As you head to the south of Kecskemet, you will find a wasteland known as Bugac Puszta. From that area, Hungary has produced a number of very, famous poets and artists. Founded in the 10th century, today approximately 105,000 people live in the city of Kecskemet and while once considered a sleepy town it is now a bustling city with much to offer.

Kecskemet, Hungary For instance, the International Ceramics Studios, a magnificent art center is located in Kecskemet. This particular studio is known around the world for promoting the formal, technical, and aesthetic of ceramics as a means of helping student develop skills. In addition, this center is used to help with the research of ceramics along with development, design, and experimentation. Founded in 1978, this ceramics studio has been important to supporting the culture.

You will also find a number of quaint churches, museums, and even a law school complete with law library in Kecskemet. To give you an idea as to the famous people coming out of this city, there is the Hungarian dramatist, Joseph Katona who was actually born in the city and Kodaly, the famous composer. You will also discover some of the fines architecture in all of Hungary in Kecskemet, along with a number of exciting festivals that promote the town’s pizzazz.

While Kecskemet is still considered a small, medieval town, unlike most other towns in this same region, it was never devastated by the invasion of the Turks. Instead, it became a place for many refugees to find shelter, then becoming the third largest town in the country. Because of its unique history, you almost immediately notice a flamboyant or air of confidence in the air.

When visiting Hungary, you should take a day trip to Kecskemet so you can enjoy the town along with a number of large museums. One of the best is the Photography Museum, which features a huge collection of cameras and photographs. Located behind the grand Katona Theater, the building itself has an interesting history, first being a dance hall and then a synagogue. However, the Modern History Museum is another that is worth visiting, revealing just how much the town of Kecskemet has changed since the 19th century.
