Ehrensvard Museum

Finland is such a diverse country, culturally speaking, so much that people of all ages enjoy traveling to this European country. While there, you will be amazed at all, there is to do and see. For some reason, people seem to think of Finland as a country caught in an ice age but in truth, approximately 90% of the country is covered with forests and just 10% water. As you will discover in this article, one of the great places to visit is a museum called Ehrensvard Museum.

To get to Ehrensvard Museum, you can take motorboats or ferries from Helsinki to Suomenlinna Island. This particular museum is located at the commandant’s quarters, the same place where Augustin Ehrensvard lived, thus the name. The Ehrensvard Museum covers the history of the fortress from earlier Swedish days to mayday. The building that houses the museum was at one time used as the official residence in the fortress courtyard of Suomenlinna.

The Coastal Defense Museum is another that is dedicated to guns and aiming devices of earlier times, used for coastal defense. For something a little lighter, there is the Doll and Toy Museum. There, you will enjoy wonderful crafts, dolls, and toys, many made by locals and some from earlier eras. Remember, the Ehrensvard Museum and other popular sites are just a glimpse of what Finland has to offer. With a current population around five million people, you can be sure there are always things to do and see.
