Iguassu Falls

One of the largest falls in the world, Iguassu Falls in Brazil is located inside the Iguacu National Park that borders both Brazil and Argentina. These falls are similar to the Niagara Falls in the United States, only 60 feet taller. Without doubt, this is a beautiful and mesmerizing area that when in Brazil, you should see. Considered one of the greatest wonders in South America, the falls are shaped like a horseshoe that measure more than 2.5 miles wide between two countries and 269 feet tall.

He number of falls actually varies anywhere between 150 and 300, which is completely dependent on the amount of water flowing from the Iguacu River. Even when there are fewer falls, the view is breathtakingly beautiful. You can stand at a number of vantage points and just marvel at the falls’ beauty. In addition to the magnificence of the water, you will also have the pleasure of seeing a wide variety of wildlife living around the area in rocky and wooded islands.

Iguassu Falls, Brazil
The name, Iguassu Falls, comes from the Guarani Indian words meaning “great water.” So magnificent, these falls were declared a Natural Heritage of Mankind by Unesco in 1986 and every year, thousands of people go there to enjoy this natural wonder. Some of the vegetation around the falls is very, tropical and if you look closely, you will see fragrant pine trees standing right next to palm trees. The area also features a number of beautiful orchids, lianas, mosses, and begonias.

At one time, Eleanor Roosevelt visited the Iguassu Falls and once she saw the magic of this place, she proclaimed, “Poor Niagara – this makes Niagara look like a kitchen faucet.” Another great part of these falls is that on both sides are National Parks that are home to some 400 species of birds. Included with this, are five members of the Toucan family and more than 100 gorgeous butterfly species. These falls are truly impressive and a wonderful destination when in the country of Brazil.
