TOYOTA MOTOR CORP. OPENED ITS TAHARA PLANT. MITSUBISHI
AND SUZUKI, AS WELL AS TOYOTA, THEN STARTED EXPORTING
THEIR PRODUCTS FROM THIS PORT. IN 1988 MIKAWA PORT BEGAN
IMPORTING PEUGEOT AUTOMOBILES. THESE IMPORTS WERE
SUBSEQUENTLY EXTENDED TO ENCOMPASS PRODUCTS MADE BY FORD,
GENERAL MOTORS, MERCEDES-BENZ, PORSCHE, ROVER AND
VOLKSWAGEN. AS A RESULT, THIS PORT HAS AN INTERNATIONAL
BASE FOR THE SHIPPING OF AUTOMOBILES.
